Dabangg Box Office Report: Beats 3 Idiots' Opening Day Collections

'Dabangg' is likely to break the 38 crore weekend box office record set by '3 Idiots' as well.

Box Office Report of Dabangg: It took eight months for a movie to break 3 Idiots' record of the opening day box office collections. Dabangg surely lives up to its name and has had a "fearless" run at the box office on its opening day with net collections of approximately Rs 140 million (Rs 14 crore), thus beating 3 Idiots' opening day collections of Rs 130 million (Rs 13 crore). Collections for some circuits are still being compiled and hence the number is likely to go up.

Salman Khan in Dabangg

As was reported, Dabangg took a stupendous opening at single screens as well as multiplexes across the country. Not only that with 'Eid' and 'Ganesh Chaturthi' holiday today followed by Sunday, 'Dabangg' is likely to break the 38 crore weekend record of '3 Idiots' as as well.

It may be recalled that '3 Idiots' had netted 41 crores including Thursday paid previews and 38 crore from Friday to Sunday.

To its credit, 'Dabangg' has no other popular names except Salman Khan while in case of '3 Idiots' it was directed by Munnabhai fame Raju Hirani and had known names like Kareena Kapoor, Madhavan and also the quite popular Boman Irani in support of Aamir Khan.

Dabangg has been received extremely well at circuits like Rajasthan and CI. While 3 Idiots collected Rs 68 lakhs from Rajasthan on Day 1, Dabangg has done a whopping business of Rs 81 lakhs. On the other hand, in CI, Dabangg saw net collections of approximately Rs 62 lakhs on day 1 as compared to 3 Idiots' Rs 48 lakhs.

Dabangg's Day 2 and Day 3 at the box office will decide whether it has managed to overtake 3 Idiots' opening weekend collections. 3 Idiots' net collections on Saturday and Sunday stood at Rs 116.50 million (Rs 11.65 crore) and Rs 132.50 million (Rs 13.25 crore) respectively.

Taran Adarsh, editor of Trade Guide, says the film should do a business of around Rs45 crore on the first weekend, easily overtaking 3 Idiots’ collections. "It’s definitely the biggest hit this year (overtaking Raajneeti), but the more interesting thing is that it now seems to be a major competitor to 3 Idiots. And with both multiplexes and single screens recording excellent collections, it’s a win-win situation for the makers.”

3 Idiots, which ended its run with a net business of Rs202 crore, is the highest grossing Hindi film of all time, followed by Ghajini with Rs115 crore, informs Adarsh. "As things stand now, Dabangg’s only competition – from the point of view of final gross – seems to be 3 Idiots," he says.

According to reports Overseas too, Dabangg is unstoppable - collections report waited.
